Hylobius abietis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Large Pine Weevil

Length: 10-13mm

A serious pest of conifer seedlings throughout Europe. Adults eat the bark and cambium of young conifers causing severe damage or even killing them. Adults are found throughout the year.

Eggs are laid in spring with biennial generations not uncommon, larvae are active throughout the summer with adults appearing in the July and August of the following year.
