A univoltine species on the wing from August to April when it is an infrequent visitor to light and an occasional autumnal visitor to sugar. A species of moorland and open woodland.

The larva is polyphagous on various herbaceous plants, feeding in spring. Overwinters as an adult, mates in the spring, before pupating in detritus on the ground.
