Odontosia carmelita (Esper, 1789)

Scarce Prominent
Le Bombyx carmélite

Wingspan: 35-43mm

A univoltine species flying from mid-April to the end of June. At Las Descargues it is at the extreme south of its range in Europe and is a scarce species. Prefers broadleaved wooded habitats up to 1700m.

The larva feeds on Betula and Ulmus species, overwinters as a pupa just below ground.
