Utetheisa pulchella (Linnaeus, 1758)

Crimson Speckled
La Gentille

Wingspan: 30-46mm

A plurivoltine immigrant species on the wing from April to October when it is an occasional visitor to light. The specimen illustrated was found dead in the garden trap at Las Descargues this morning and is the earliest recorded here. A species of arid habitats.

The larva feeds on various herbaceous plants, overwintering as a larva in southern Europe but is a continuous breeder in the tropics.
