Hypena crassalis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Beautiful Snout

Wingspan: 30-35mm

A univoltine species flying between May and August. A scarce visitor to light, recorded on just a single occasion at Las Descargues. The individual depicted was found dead in the bottom of an mv trap. A species of open woodland, moorland and heathland.

The larva feeds on bilberry before overwintering as a pupa in plant detritus or just below ground.
