Saturnia pavonia (Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan: male - 40-55mm female - 50-65mm

A univoltine species flying from March to July when it is attracted to light but only ever as singletons. it is recorded most commonly from traps situated in heathland but is also taken from moorland, woodland and scrub.

Larvae feed on various trees, shrubs and woody perennials before overwintering as pupae.
