Hemaris fuciformis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Broad-bordered Bee Hawkmoth
Le Sphinx gaz

Wingspan: 40-50mm

A univoltine or bivoltine species depending on latitude and altitude flying from May to late-June and again from mid-July to the end of August or even early-September. A diurnal species flying from late-morning to mid-afternoon. Recorded at Las Descargues and from many other habitats feeding on a variety of herbaceous and flowering plants. A species of heathland and open woodland.

Larvae feed on Lonicera, Galium, Knautia spp. Overwinters as apupa underground.
