Oncocera semirubella (Scopoli, 1763)

Wingspan: 26-32mm

A bivoltine species flying from May to September when it is a frequent visitor to light and sugar. Abundance varies enormously from year to year for no apparent reason, in 2005 a single trap recorded over 5,000 individuals yet in the following two years totals were well below 1,000. A species of calcareous grassland it has been recorded from all sites where this habitat is found particularly the Causse.

Larvae feed on Lotus corniculatus and Trifolium spp.
