Schoenobius gigantella ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan: male 25-30mm; female 41-46mm

A bivoltine species flying in June and July and again in August when females are occasional visitors to light at Las Descargues but males are more often encountered at Lac Tolerme and in the Bave Valley. A species of wetlands, particularly reedbeds.

Larvae feed in stems of Phragmites australis, Glyceria maxima. Pupation takes place in the reed-stem head up.
