Zygaena sarpedon (Hübner, 1790)

Wingspan: 24-28mm

A univoltine species on the wing from May to July. Primarily a coastal species but it is also found on hillsides up to 1200m asl. Not recorded from Las Descargues but an occasional species on the Causse and Catus.

Larva feeds on Eryngium bourgatti, E. campestre, E. maritimum. Blackish brown pupa in a whitish cocoon spun on the underside of the foodplant, under rocks or in low vegetation.
