Shargacucullia lychnitis (Rambur, 1833)

Striped Lychnis
La Bréchette

Wingspan: 38-44mm

A univoltine Mediterranean species on the wing from May to July when it is frequently encountered on the Causse and at Catus. A species of calcareous habitats, woodland rides and fallow grasslands. Not recorded at Las Descargues.

Larva feeds on Verbascum, Scrophularia etc. Pupation can last for two years either on the surface or just below in a strong cocoon.
