Euphydryas aurinia (Rottemburg, 1775)

Marsh Fritillary

Wingspan: 30-46mm

A univoltine species on the wing from April to August from 300 to 1000m. Rarely recorded at Las Descargues, a species more often encountered in the lowland areas of the region. A species of calcareous or acidic heathland, grasslands, moors and lowland woodland clearings.

Larvae feed on Succisa pratensis, Scabiosa, Cephalaria, and Knautia species
