Apamea crenata (Hufnagel, 1766)

Clouded-bordered Brindle

Wingspan: 36-45mm

A univoltine species flying from May to July when it is an occasional visitor to the lights at Las Descargues. A variable species with two forms, a pale, cream brown and the second, a rich, mahogany brown. The species is associated with meadows, moorland and rides in broadleaved woodland.

Larvae feed on grasses overwintering as larvae with pupation taking place amongst the roots of the foodplant.
