Phyllonorycter maestingella (Muller, 1764)

Wingspan: 7.5-9mm

A bivoltine moth on the wing in May and June and again at the end of hottest parts of the summer, August to mid-September. Adults are scarce at Las Descargues despite the abundance of mines but has probably just been overlooked.

Eggs are laid on the underside of leaves of Fagus sylvatica with the large mine sometimes stretching from the mid-rib to the edge of the leaf forming a creased tube along the mid-rib or the edge of the leaf.
