Stigmella tityrella (Stainton, 1854)

Wingspan: 5-6mm

The adult moths are bivoltine flying in April and May and again from July to early-September. The adults are yet to be recorded at Las Descargues although the mines are commonly found on beech.

Eggs are laid on the underside of the leaves of Fagus sylvatica with a galleried mine meandering away from the mid-rib between two veins, some can have reddish hue.
