Lasiocampa trifolii ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan: male 35-45mm female 40-65mm

A univoltien species on the wing from June to October when it is attracted to light and has been recorded from all sites with heathland, garrigues and maquis habitats.

Larvae feed on various low growing plants, shrubs and grasses. Overwinters as an egg before larval feeding begins in the spring. Pupation takes place in a tough cocoon on or near the ground.
