Stigmella aceris (Frey, 1857)

Wingspan: 4mm

An extremely small bivoltine moth with adults on the wing in May and again in July. The imago has yet to be recorded at Las Descargues, almost certainly overlooked because the mine is present on Acers throughout.

Eggs are laid on the underside of the leaves of Acer campestre and Acer pseudoplatanus. A sinuous frass-filled mine is produced by the larva.
