Stigmella hemargyrella (Kollar, 1832)

Wingspan: 5-6mm

A bivoltine species with adults on the wing in April and May and again from mid-June to August and often found on the trunks of Fagus sylvatica. Adults have yet to be recorded at Las Descargues but mines have been recorded on the foodplant at Latouille-Lentillac nearby.

Larvae feed at first in sinuous galleries that start as narrow, linear, frass-filled ribbons, after moult the frass becomes tightly coiled.
