Stigmella atricapitella (Haworth, 1828)

Wingspan: 4.5-6mm

A bivoltine species on the wing in May and June and again from early August to the end of September. The adult is yet to be recorded at Las Descargue although mines are relatively common on the oaks of the plateau.

Eggs are laid on the leaves of Quercus robur and Q. patraea generally on the upperside away from the margin although occasionally they are laid on the underside near the margin. The larva forms a blotch or linear mine.
