Gastropacha quercifolia (Linnaeus, 1785)

Wingspan: male 45-70mm female 48-90mm

A double-brooded species flying from May to August when it is an infrequent visitor to light and has been recorded from the Las Descargues ridge woodland only. A species of open woodland and scrub.

Larvae feed on various broadleaved trees, Quercus, Salix, Malus, Crataegus spp., also Rhamnus, Berberis, Sorbus, Corylus etc. Overwinters as larvae before pupation takes place in a strong cocoon near the ground or on the foodplant.
