Bucculatrix nigricomella Zeller, 1839

Wingspan: 7-8mm

A variable bivoltine species flying in April and May and again from late July to the end of August when it can be swept during late evening from the environs of the foodplant.

Larvae feed within a narrow linear gallery usually on the upperside of the leaf, the gallery emerges from an initial spiral. Frass is continuous at first but later on Leucanthemum vulgare forms a broken line. Larvae can leave the mine to start afresh in another part of the leaf or even in another leaf nearby.
