Tyria jacobaeae (Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan: male 30-35mm female 30-37mm

A univoltine species on the wing from May to early-August. An unusual species at Las Descargues although it has been frequently encountered on the Causse where it is often flushed from vegetation during daytime forays. The species is also attracted to light where, when conditions are right it can be abundant.

Larvae recorded feeding on Senecio vulgaris, S. paludosus, S. jacobaeae, Tussilago, and Petasites.
