Marumba quercus ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Oak Hawkmoth
Sphinx du chene

Wingspan: male 80-110mm female 90-115mm

A bivoltine species flying from May to August when it comes to light often in numbers with over 50 recorded from a single, rather crowded mv trap. Only recorded from the Causse. A species of dry oak woodland and scrub.

Larvae feed on various oaks Quercus species, Q. ilex, Q. suber, Q. cerris, Q. robur, Q. petraea.
