Blastodacna atra (Haworth, 1828)

Wingspan: 10-13mm

Adults on the wing from the end of May to September when they occasionally visit light but this is a scarce species at Las Descargues and on the Causse. A pest species of apple trees.

Larvae mine the twig of an apple tree from early autumn to the spring feeding throughout the winter. Larval presence can be signaled by ejected frass from the entrance hole on the twig. Pupation takes place within the twig in early spring.
