Mimas tiliae (Linnaeus, 1758)

Lime Hawkmoth
Sphinx du tilleul

Wingspan: male 55-70mm female 50-75mm

A bivoltine species flying from April to July with a second generation in September. It is attracted to light and has been recorded from all sites. A species of broadleaved woodland and wherever the foodplants are found.

Larvae feed on various broadleaved trees, lime, birch, oak, elm and alder before overwintering as pupae below ground at the base of the foodplant.
