Wingspan: male 60-75mm female 65-80mm

A bivoltine species flying from April to August when it is attracted to light and has been recorded from all sites in or adjacent to coniferous woodland. The species does disperse however, and can be found in almost habitat.

Larvae feed on pines, cedar, larch, spruce etc. Overwinters as pupae after feeding on mature needles of the foodplant. Pupates in a cocoon beneath the foodplant in leaf litter or just below ground level.
