Wingspan: male and female 55-65mm

A bivoltine species on the wing from May through to October with no discernible break. It has been recorded from all sites and is a frequent visitor to light often abundantly so. On a single night in 2003 103 were drawn to an mv trap at Las Descargues. A species of various habitats from woodland to heath.

Larvae feed on willowherbs and bedstraws and various other herbaceous plants. Overwinters as a pupa in a thin cocoon on or just below the soil surface.
