Asteroscopus sphinx (Hufnagel, 1766)

La Noctuelle-Sphinx

Wingspan: 34-46mm

A univoltine species on the wing from October to the early days of December when it is attracted to light and has been recorded from all woodland sites.

Larvae feed on various broadleaved trees and shrubs. Overwintering takes place in the egg stage, these are laid singly or in small clutches in bark crevices. Larvae feed in early spring before pupation takes place deep underground.
