Thaumetopoea pityocampa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Pine Processionary

Wingspan: 34-46mm

A univoltine species on the wing from June to August. A relatively common moth of the coniferous woodlands close to Las Descargues. A frequent visitor to light but not restricted to the Fournanty Plateau, frequently appearing at various sites on the Causse.

Larvae feed on various pine species, overwintering as an egg before larval feeding takes place in the spring.
