Apocheima hispidaria ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Small Brindled Beauty
La Nyssie hispide

Wingspan: 35-37mm

A univoltine species on the wing from February to April. The male comes readily to light but the female is wingless but can often be recorded from oak trunks during the day. A species of woodland and scrubby grassland.

The larva feeds on oak, sweet chestnut, elm, blackthorn, birch and hazel before overwintering as a pupa.
