Phigalia pilosaria ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Pale Brindled Beauty
La Phalène velue

Wingspan: 45-50mm

A univoltine species on the wing from February to April. During the day the wingless female can be seen on oak trunks and the male on fence posts but he will later come to light and has been recorded from woodland and woodland margin traps throughout.

The larva feeds on a variety of trees and shrubs before overwintering as a pupa.
