Erannis defoliaria (Clerck, 1759)

Mottled Umber
L'Hibernie défeuillante

Wingspan: 40-45mm

Imago: univoltine - October - December. The wingless female can be found on tree trunks after dark whilst the male is an occasional visitor to light. Recorded from all habitats at most sites.

Larva: feeds on oak, birch and various other deciduous trees and shrubs. Overwinters as an egg.
