Lymantria monacha (Linnaeus, 1758)

Black Arches
La Nonne

Wingspan: 44-54mm

Imago: univoltine - July-September. Both sexes visit light but the male is by far the more common of the two. A species of broadleaved woodland it has been recorded from the environs of that habitat.

Larva: feeds on oak Quercus species. The species overwinters as an egg.
