Wingspan: 48-65mm

Imago: univoltine - July-September. The male is a regular visitor to light but the female does not fly and rarely leaves away from its cocoon. This is pest of trees both wild and cultivated and is most commonly recorded in or near woodland habitats.

Larva: feeds on various trees and shrubs. Overwinters as an egg.
