Xestia xanthographa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Square-spot Rustic
La Trimaculée

Wingspan: 32-40mm

Imago: univoltine - August-October. Visits light and sugar sometimes in abundance and has been recorded from grassland habitats, woodland margins and rides.

Larva: feeds mainly on grasses but has also been recorded from herbaceous plants and oak. Overwinters as a larva with pupation taking place underground after a prolonged period in an underground cocoon.
