Protodeltote pygarga (Hufnagel, 1766)

Marbled White Spot

Wingspan: 23-29mm

A bivoltine moth flying from May to November. A frequent visitor to light and an occasional one to sugar, the species has been recorded from all Las Descargues traps and those situated in broadleaved woodland, heathland, unmanaged grassland and gardens. It is normally associated with neutral or acid habitats yet here, as in most of the region, habitat are primarily calcareous in origin.

The larva is polyphagous on grass species before overwintering as a pupa underground.
