Pyrrhia umbra (Hufnagel, 1766)

Wingspan: 34-41mm

A univoltine species on the wing from June to August. A species of calcareous grassland, scrub where hazel is present and the open woodland of the Causse. It is a frequent visitor to light and is often taken from the Las Descargues garden traps.

Larvae are polyphagous on herbaceous plants but will also feed on oak, hazel and willow. Overwinters as a pupa just below ground.
