Trachea atriplicis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Orache Moth
Le Volant doré

Wingspan: 44-50mm

A bivoltine species on the wing in May and June and again from July to October. A species of diverse habitats from the dry open limestone pavement, garrigue and open woodland around Las Descargues to rough grassland. It is rarely encountered in wetter habitats, contrary to where it was often recorded in the UK. It is attracted to light and sugar.

The larva is polyphagous on herbaceous plants before overwintering as a pupa underground.
