Wingspan: 31-38mm

Usually a univoltine species flying from June-August but in 2010 a distinct second generation appeared in early October and continued until the first week in November. A species found in various habitats, woodland, gardens, rough grassland and wetland. It is an often frequent visitor to light and sugar.

Larva feeds on lichen and algae overwintering as a small larva with pupation taking place in spring in a crack in bark or a similar crevice in walls, old fence posts etc.
