Shargacucullia verbasci (Linnaeus, 1758)

La Cucullie du bouillon-blanc

Wingspan: 44-56mm

A univoltine species on the wing from April to June. A scarce visitor to light recorded from various calcareous habitats, dry grassland, woodland margins and occasionally the Causse but is commonly encountered at Catus.

The beautiful larva feeds on mulleins both wild and cultivated, overwinters as a pupa sometimes for up to five years although this has only been noted from captive specimens.
