Calybites phasianipennella (Hübner, 1813)

Wingspan: 10-11mm

A univoltine species with the adult emerging in the autumn then after overwintering appearing again in late April through to June. An dark form occurs but is infrequently recorded here. All forms are attracted to light but are more often beaten from vegetation in winter. It has been recorded at Las Descargues and from the woodland margins of the ridge and gorge.

Larvae feed on Polygonum spp. starting in a gallery which leads to a blotch mine. When the larva vacates the mine it cuts a window approximately 30mm long from the leaf edge, a second roll is often produced and in this, pupation takes place.
