Catocala fraxini (Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan: 84-100mm

A univoltine species flying from July to November. It is attracted to light and strongly attracted to sugar, recorded from all broadleaved woodland sites and from all Las Descargues traps.

Larva feeds on Populus spp. particularly aspen of which there are abundant specimens along the margins of the Gorge woodland, it overwinters as an egg on the foodplant and pupates after spring feeding between leaves or in plant detritus.
