Catocala sponsa (Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan: 58-78mm

A univoltine species on the wing from July to October it is the most common member of the genus and has been recorded from Las Descargues and all traps in or near mature oak woodland.

The larva feeds on the flowers and buds of Quercus spp. in early spring after overwintering as an egg. Pupation takes place in a cocoon spun between leaves of the foodplant.
