Chortodes pygmina (Haworth, 1809)

Small Wainscot

Wingspan: 22-25mm

Imago: Univoltine flying from July to September when it is attracted to light and has been commonly recorded at Las Descargues. A species usually associated with fens, marshes and wet grassland and woodlands yet it is still taken here some 300m above any such habitats.

Larva: Feeds on sedges and grasses, overwintering as a larva with pupation taking place in hollow stems or amongst plant detritus.
