Mesapamea didyma (Esper, 1788)

Lesser Common Rustic

Wingspan: 28-34mm

Imago: Univoltine, flying from July to September when it visits light and sugar. It has been recorded from Las Descargues and all grassland habitats but care needs to be taken over identification to avoid confusion with M. secalis, examination of the genitalia is the only certain means of separation.

Larva: Feeds on grasses and overwinters as a larva before pupating underground in spring.
