Chilo phragmitellus (Hübner, 1805)

Wingspan: male - 24-32mm female - 30-40mm

Imago: Univoltine, June to September. It is a rare visitor to light at Las Descargues but has been taken at lower altitudes near water. The female is more likely to be found away from its expected habitat.

Larva: Feeds in the stems of Phragmites or Glyceria maxima. Pupation occurs in the stems below exit holes prepared by the larva before pupation.
