Zygaena filipendulae (Linnaeus, 1758)

Six-spot Burnet

Wingspan: male - 14-18mm female - 15-18mm

A univoltine species flying from June to September. It has been recorded from most sites but appears most abundantly in the limestone meadows of the Causse.

Larval foodplants, Lotus corniculatus, L. uliginosus and many other Lotus species. Overwinters, often twice, as a larva with pupation taking place in a cocoon on grass stems.
