Hydriomena furcata (Thunberg, 1784)

Wingspan: 30-40mm

A univoltine species fluing from mid-June to August when it is attracted to light but only ever in small numbers at Las Descargues. A species of woodland where hazel is present, scrub, heathland and the Causse.

The larva feeds on Corylus avellana, Fagus, Vaccinum myrtillus etc. It overwinters as an egg on the foodplant. Pupation takes place in a cocoon on the ground or just beneath the ground.
