Yponomeuta padella (Linnaeus, 1758)

Orchard Ermine

Wingspan: 19-22mm

A univoltine species flying from mid-June to the end of August when it is an occasional visitor to light. Recorded infrequently at Las Descargues but more often from the limestone pavement of the Causse where its foodplants are more commonly found in scrub.

The larva feeds on Prunus spinosa, Crataegus etc.

This group of species is particularly difficult to identify even through examination of the genitalia.
