Pyrausta aurata (Scopoli, 1763)

A bivoltine species flying in June and JUly and again from September to May. It is attracted to light but can be confused with P. purpuralis. The dry, calcareous habitats of the Causse also produce numbers of the moth throughout the late summer.

The larva feeds on Thymus, Origanum, Menthe, Salvia spp.
